Dr. Angela Gröbel, Product Manager Analytik Jena
Oliver Büttel, Application Specialist Analytik Jena US
Victoria Kirk, Application Specialist Analytik Jena

Content and goals of the web seminar

Start: November 3, 2021 | 5 p.m. CEST
Duration: ~60 min
Language: English

Like fossil fuel refining, the biofuels refining process requires comprehensive chemical analysis to ensure the quality of raw materials as well as finished products. This includes monitoring various metals and non-metals that might have a negative impact on the process performance and the quality of finished products or generate harmful emissions and byproducts during the refining process. Analytical techniques, such as ICP-OES for metals analysis, as well as combustion-based elemental analysis for the detection of non-metals are commonly used in petro industry and regulated by local and international standard methods like ASTM and UOP.  Join our Analytik Jena expert speaker team Dr. Angela Gröbel, Product Manager Elemental Analysis, Victoria Kirk, Application Specialist, and Oliver Büttel, Product and Application Manager North America as they discuss various types of biofuels, their production processes and how a fast and reliable analysis process can be achieved.

Key learning objectives:

  • Introduction to different types of biofuels, their production process, including an overview of undesired chemical elements

  • Presentation of a fast, reliable, and cost-efficient elemental analysis solution for major elements such as carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and chlorine (C, N, S, X) to keep process and product quality at peak levels

  • Presentation of the advantages of High-Resolution ICP-OES for trace metals analysis in biofuel precursors

  • Case study of biodiesel production from waste animal fat and its quality monitoring
