Analytik Jena Wins Large Chinese Order
Jena, March 11, 2010 - Analytik Jena AG, one of the leading providers of analytical and bioanalytical instruments for industrial and research applications, has won a large order from China in the field of life science. The company is supplying the Asian region with biotechnology systems manufactured by Biometra GmbH, a subsidiary based in Göttingen, Germany. Most of the revenues from the large order, valued at more than EUR 0.5 m, will be booked in the third quarter of the 2009/2010 fiscal year.
"China's rising standard of living makes it one of the strongest growing markets in the world and an attractive export target for the entire life science industry," said Klaus Berka, CEO of Analytik Jena AG. "Biometra is already generating 10 percent of its revenues through its long-standing sales partner in China. This is a remarkable achievement in light of the highly competitive Chinese market.
The large-scale order encompasses the delivery of several hundred Thermocyclers, a DNA amplification platform designed especially for biomedical and pharmaceutical research applications. Biometra GmbH, 100 percent acquired by Analytik Jena in May 2009 and integrated into the Life Science business unit, is one of the pioneers in the field of DNA polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technologies.
"In January 2010, we created and integrated our own sales structures for the life science market in China into our existing, extremely successful organization in Peking. We expect this move to expand the immense potential of our broad product portfolio in this segment. Overall, revenue growth has been excellent in the life science business thanks to our strategy and positioning as a complete provider," added Berka.
The company's Life Science business unit registered revenue growth of 488.9 percent in the first three months of the 2009/2010 fiscal year, spurred in particular by Biometra GmbH.
